Fort Drum is competing for the Army's new Multi-Domain Task Force — or MDTF, a strategy to deal with the national security threat from China and Russia.

FORT DRUM — Fort Drum could be selected for a new military installation that could add another 3,000 soldiers and dozens more civilian jobs.

The announced assignments will see new faces heading to important acquisition posts in the Army.

TRADOC Commander Gen. Paul Funk wants to include the latest data from Ukraine conflict. "Why would we not take advantage of that just for some timeline?" he said.

"What you’re going to see is a greater level of detail and maturity for not just leveraging commercial cloud computing, but really how that starts to extend into our on-premise locations, how this starts to extend into our tactical locations," Paul Puckett, director of the Army's Enterprise Cloud Management Office said.

"I don't think it would be wise for us to wait to develop the kinds of weapons systems, we need for a future conflict until we had the diplomatic agreements signed," Army Secretary Christine Wormuth said.

Russian aggression against Ukraine is a stark reminder that war remains violent, human and unpredictable.

A commander for the task force as been chosen, but no final basing decision has been made.
