A storm has delivered one of the wettest days in decades to the New York metropolitan area. The deluge Friday stranded drivers on highways, knocked out several subway and commuter rail lines, and shuttered a terminal at LaGuardia Airport. The National Weather service says more than 7.25 inches of rain had fallen in parts of Brooklyn by nightfall. The 8.65 inches of rain at John F. Kennedy Airport surpassed its record for any September day. That record was set during Hurricane Donna in September 1960. And more downpours are still expected.
