A now-13-year-old boy accused of shooting at Volusia County sheriff's deputies has entered a plea and been sentenced for the June 2021 incident.

A Florida teen accused of fleeing from a group home with a friend, breaking into a nearby residence, and then shooting at deputies has been sentenced in connection with the June 2021 incident.

A harrowing video from early June shows Volusia County Sgt. Don Maxwell taking cover behind a tree, targeted by a 14-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy. Deputies say the pair broke into a house and armed themselves with weapons they found inside. 

"It just shocked me because it's kind of hard to believe that children are inside the house and you're hearing gunfire coming out," Maxwell said.
