It didn’t happen and the Spartans actually regressed on the ground.
Michigan State averaged only 91.4 rushing yards per game in 2020, which ranked 122nd out of 127 teams in the nation and was the program’s lowest total in records dating back to 1947. The Spartans had only two rushing touchdowns – one by tight end Tyler Hunt and the other by quarterback Payton Thorne. They topped 100 yards on the ground in just two games and those were their two wins – at Michigan and against Northwestern – while finishing 2-5.
