“Search Party” returns to HBO Max this week for its fourth season, picking up after last year’s cliffhanger episode, which showed leading lady Dory Sief (Alia Shawkat) kidnapped by an obsessed fan named Chip (Cole Escola) who stalked her for most of season 3. Dory becomes imprisoned in a prison Chip’s created in his aunt’s basement, and season four feels more like an episodic Stephen King-inspired horror film than a comedy as she tries to find ways to escape her captor’s clutches.

The Alia Shawkat-led dark comedy “Search Party” gets even darker in its fourth season, which debuted its first three episodes Jan. 14 on HBO Max.
In its first season produced exclusively for a streaming service, “Search Party” is still inventing new twists, beginning with the kidnapping of its lead character, Dory Sief (Shawkat) by an obsessed fan Chip (Cole Escola) moments after she gets acquitted for a murder that she actually did help commit.

Whenever Alia Shawkat takes over the role of Dory Sief, she becomes an absolute pleasure to watch on Search Party . The once TBS show moved to HBO Max amid years of stagnancy and when it did, the dark comedy thriller returned with a very interesting Season 3. Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer – Relive the 1985 murder spree that kept Los Angeles in a state of panic in a four-part mini-series that crawls inside the twisted mind of the notorious Richard Ramirez. Premieres Thursday:
Hunted – The Little Red Riding Hood myth gets modernized into a take on misogyny, with a woman fleeing a bunch of barflies whose predatory intentions may extend as far as murder. Boy, is this week taking on a . tone, or what? (
