For the past several years Iโve been doing a year-end wrap-up of some of the best books Iโve read during the year. Usually itโs a top 10 list with a few extras thrown in. (One of last yearโs honorable mentions was As Bright As Heaven By Susan Meisner. It was more timely than I ever could have imagined, because its topic is the 1918 pandemic. As we live out our own pandemic, I would highly recommend this one again.) This year, Iโve had lots of time to read since there wasnโt much el...

Had a chip on his shoulder about cutting a deal with the democrats. he seemed fine with it and he seemed like he wanted to talk about what hes going to do in the next 100 days. we covered the waterfront from north korea to whether you want to break up the big banks. i see some commonalities on them. on north korea he sees his own personal negotiating skills and we know this from his life and business and from his life as a campaigner and early months in the white house that he feels that he pers...

>> all banks have been under such regulatory scrutiny where theyve been forced to literally build capital and build capital and instead of lending capital into their clients and allowing their clients to grow their businesses and hire people and create jobs. theyve been taking those reserves, taking that capital and hording it to pay for additional regulation. >> reporter: the president has also vowed he will reveal dot frank and replace it with something else. but that, too, is for down the roa...

Something, but cant detail how it will be in fact replaced, and the reason he set up the system he did in massachusetts is because there isnt a better way of dealing with the preexisting conditions problem. it just remind me he says hes going to close deductions and loopholes for his tax plan. thats how its going to be paid for but we dont know the details. he says that hes going to replace dodd frank, wall street reform. but we dont know exactly which ones. he wont tell us. he now says hes goin...

>> thats right. >> but here are the specifics. >> obviously the american people listen to both sides and concluded that mitt romney was right. because he happens to be right. and governor, respectfully, he said you lower the corporate tax rate to 25% and the petroleum industry exemptions can go away. that was another specific. >> he didnt say that. >> yes, he did say that. >> he said it might go away. he was not specific. >> let me play for you a series of clips because theres a lot of talk abou...

And that doesnt help the millions of people out there with preexisting conditions. theres a reason why governor romney set up the plan that he did in massachusetts. it wasnt a government takeover of health care, it was the largest expansion of private insurance. but what it does say is that insurers, youve got to take everybody. now, that also means that youve got more customers. but when governor romney says that hell replace it with something, but cant detail how it will be in fact replaced, a...

Economy. dot frank was passed and it includes provisions that have it delths banks too big to fail. this is the biggest kiss thats been given to new york banks ive ever seen. this is an enormous boon for t them. there have been 122 community small banks have closed since dodd frank. >> you want to repeal dodd frank? >> i would repeal and replace it. you have to have regulation. and theres some parts of dodd frank that make all the sense in the world. you need transparency, you need to have lever...

Regulation. but i wouldnt designate five banks as too big to fail and give them a blank check. thats one of the unintended consequences of dodd frank. we need to get rid of that provision because its killing regional and small banks. let me mention other regulation in dodd frank. youre saying were giving mortgages to people who werent qualified. youre exactly right. so dodd frank correctly says we need to have qualified mortgages. and if you give a mortgage thats not qualified, there are big pen...
