Council members Paul Williams, Susan Johnson and Michael Jackson chose personal politics over progress at the most recent council meeting. These leaders failed to understand the concept of servant leadership and instead chose to force their pers...

The Janesville City Council did not approve the gas station’s license application Monday night with the council split on an even 3-3 vote for the proposal on North Wright Road. City Council President Doug Marklein recused himself from the vote due to a conflict of interest, so the seven-member council did not have a majority split. Council members Susan Jo...

JANESVILLE The Janesville City Council set a goal Monday to reach carbon neutral emissions by 2050, but city staff questions if that goal is attainable. The council approved the goal, 6-1, with an amendment to include it and a feasibility study in the 2022 five-year strategic plan. Doug Marklein cast the sole opposing vote. A municipality, business or organization reaches carbon neutrality when it removes the same amount of carbon dioxide that it emits into the atmosphere. A municipality or bus...

The council voted 4-3 to change the ordinances governing their allotment of licenses for liquor stores. Council member Doug Marklein said the market will create its own limit on liquor licenses as the demand is met by the supply. The city council had already allowed seven businesses to exceed the existing quota of 19. City Clerk Dave Godek noted that the council does not have to grant every license that businesses apply for. The quota on Class B liquor licenses for bars and restaurants remains ...
