Smithfield Foods is to close its Charlotte, North Carolina, pork processing plant and transfer production to a facility in the same state.

Firm plans to transfer production to its Tar Heel facility to increase efficiency and better utilize existing capacity.

The company will move all production to its major Tar Heel, NC, plant.
