Work will soon get underway to remove the building and storage facilities at the former Douglas Point nuclear generating facility.
The Canadian Nuclear Laboratories recently received approval of their amended licence from the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.
Project Director Ian Bainbridge says they were basically maintaining the facility since it last operated in 1984 but can now lay the groundwork on the removal of the building.
Bainbridge says work which will include asbesto removal and isolation of services is not expected to begin until 2022.
The CNL are overseeing the decommissioning of the 12-acre site located inside the now Bruce Nuclear Generating Station.
