DeWine visits Ohio University vaccine clinic to push student immunization

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine visited Ohio University on Monday to tour the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Heritage Hall, where the university in partnership with the Athens City-County Health Department and OhioHealth operate vaccine clinics for students and residents. DeWine’s visit marked just over one week since the university began administering doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine to students as part of his administration’s effort to vaccinate university students across the state before the summer. Following his tour of the newly constructed facility, DeWine watched a handful of students be immunized with the one-dose shot while chatting with them about the vaccine.

Ohio University to host on-campus COVID-19 vaccine clinics for students

Athens NEWS Editor Ohio University in the coming days will host COVID-19 vaccination clinics on campus for students who wish to be immunized. Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced during a press conference Thursday that the state will begin working with local colleges and universities to offer vaccination clinics to their students on campuses. OU’s clinics will start this week at Heritage Hall in Athens and will offer the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, according to an email OU President Duane Nellis sent to students and faculty. The vaccine, which was granted emergency authorization by the Food and Drug Administration in February, was found in clinical trials to be safe and effective at preventing severe cases of COVID-19, hospitalization and death.
