Opelousas road, bridge improvements could begin soon

About $4.6 million for two separate infrastructure improvements funded by state grants and matching municipal revenues will begin soon in different areas of Opelousas.
City engineer William Jarrell III told the Opelousas Board of Aldermen Tuesday that plans for $2.67 million in street reconstruction for portions of all six election districts are being finalized.
Replacement projects costing $1.85 million are also scheduled for several sewerage pumping stations, added Jarrell.
Expected start dates for the two projects have not been discussed at meetings.
Jarrell’s monthly engineering report, which was approved by the board, also included some problematic areas that will probably affect three city bridges.
