Detroit is reminding residents that respite locations and warming centers are available to provide relief from the cold, frigid temperatures.

Detroit has warming centers open across the city as a storm is expected to bring accumulating snow and dangerously cold temperatures. Power outages could also happen.

The warming and respite centers will continue offering cold weather assistance through March 31. 

The City of Detroit has opened two 24-hour warming centers starting Wednesday morning through the weekend due to extremely cold temperatures.

Five other warming centers and several Detroit Public Library branches are available for Detroiters who need a respite from the cold.

A powerful winter storm is expected to slam metro Detroit for the holidays and likely disrupt travel plans with high winds, dangerous wind chills and heavy snow.

The city has just 7 restrooms per 100,000 residents that are open year-round.
