DULUTH, Minn.- The change in seasons has closed some of Duluth’s dog parks.
Jean Duluth and Keene Creek Dog Parks are just too wet right now. But the city’s other dog parks are in good enough condition to have some fun, including at Observation Park on West Third Street.
“Since the field’s been drying out and someone dropped all these tennis balls off it’s been a nice way to relax after a long day of work,” said Dustin Dzuck with his dog, Clover, “come up here, have a beer, play with the dog, nice way to spend the afternoon.”
Jean Duluth And Keene Creek Dog Parks Close
The Jean Duluth and Keene Creek Dog Parks will close beginning on Friday, March 12th, until further notice due to wet conditions.
According to a press release, other dog parks like Observation and the K-9 Haas Memorial at Gary New Duluth. will remain open. The City of Duluth staff is going to continue to assess all site conditions and will make recommendations to reopen the site after the ground has dried. The other dog parks will be looked at too in case they may need to be closed. The entrance gates to the park will be locked, and signs will be posted.
The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department announced that a portion of Keene Creek Dog Park, located at Bristol Street & 63rd Ave W, will be forced to close beginning Monday, March 8 due to spring snowmelt.
According to The City, this closure includes the area of the dog park where newly seeded turf was established last year. While this area was temporarily opened to dog park users during the winter when ground conditions were snow-covered and frozen, our recent warm temperatures have led to snowmelt. Because of that snowmelt, the area will once again be closed so that the turf can stabilize and establish.
