Incumbents faced challenges from newcomers with expansive war chests in school board races across the metro area Tuesday and partial returns show at least three sitting board members lost to well-funded opponents as of 9 p.m.
Campaign finance records show incumbents in Washington County raised about $54,000, close to one-third the $142,000 their challengers did.

PORTLAND, Ore. The results are coming in for Tuesday s special election, which include the Portland school board races and a measure to extend a levy to support the Oregon Historical Society.
According to partial results, Herman Green won the race for Zone 4 of the Portland School District with 73% of the vote; Gary Hollands won Zone 5 with 83% and Julia Brim-Edwards, the only incumbent, won Zone 6 with 80% of the vote, The Oregonian/OregonLive reports.

The leader of the state agency that helped craft guidelines for operating Oregon’s schools during the pandemic appears to have lost his bid for a third term on the Sherwood school board.
Oregon Health Authority Director Patrick Allen trailed challenger Duncan Nyang’oro’s with 46% of the vote in partial returns as of 10 p.m Tuesday.

Duncan Nyang oro topped longtime incumbent Sherwood School Board Chair Patrick Allen in early results posted by the Washington County Elections Office on Tuesday evening, May 18.
Nyang oro had 53.8% percent of the vote compared to Allen with 45.9%, initial elections results showed after 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Allen who also serves as the director of the Oregon Health Authority has spent a year in the headlines as the agency has redrawn the rules of public life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
