the fallen snow, and here is the quiet on the same highway. families staying safe at home, allowing the few salt trucks here to attack the icy roads in peace. they are working all night, 12-hour shifts. reporter: but it is so icy, even salt trucks are slipping. this one overturned north of the city. and an ambulance rushing to the hospital with a patient got stuck on ice and neighbors had to clear a path with their shoes and dust pans. as forecasters predicted, the ice was tough on power lines. 300-foot long line covered in two inches of ice is now 2200 pounds heavier, and when it is struck by an icy tree limb, power is knocked out. more than 350,000 people are in the dark across seven states. more than 3300 flights were canceled and another 3200 are canceled today. none of this is what people down here are used to. there is ice underneath the snow. nine people have been killed in the storm. and with dangerous conditions
