KNOWLTON The riverside, eastbound lane of Route 80 through the Delaware Water Gap will be closed weekdays for retaining wall work for the next two months, said the state Department of Transportation.
The retaining wall was built to hold the fill on which the four-lane highway was built in the late 1950s. There is a complex of drains under the highway to direct water running off the side of Mount Tammany, under the highway and into the Delaware River, just a few feet from the base of the wall.
The lanes will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays by the contractor, IEW Construction Inc., between mileposts 1.0 and 1.4, an area known as the S-curves, the DOT said.
