It was a good start for the Blair Oaks Falcons, but they were hoping it would be better. “There was a lot of good, but we missed out on a couple of opportunities,” Blair Oaks coach Mike DeMilia said, as the Falcons sit in fifth place in the team standings following Wednesday’s competition in the Class 2 boys wrestling state championships at Mizzou Arena. “We lost a couple matches that could come back to haunt us."

The Falcons have matched up against several state-ranked individuals in multiple classes. It was all for one ultimate purpose: To be best prepared for the state tournament.

As the high school wrestling season winds down, it’s typical for teams to begin taking it easy, making sure wrestlers are healthy and ready to go for the district tournament. If Easton DeMilia was going to win his 100th career match on his home mat, it had to happen Tuesday night. And it wasn’t going to come in his usual weight class, either. DeMilia rallied from a three-point deficit in the second period and scored the deciding takedown with :10 remaining in overtime to win 8-6 against Camdenton’s Logan Tibben in his final match of a quad-dual at Blair Oaks High School.

The Blair Oaks boys wrestling team is getting closer to full strength, and it showed Tuesday night. Blair Oaks won a pair of duals at Blair Oaks High School, defeating Capital City 57-20 and Jefferson City 41-24.

It was a good night on the mats for the Blair Oaks Falcons. After dropping four duals during the weekend in the Missouri Duals, the Falcons responded with three dual wins Tuesday night against Palmyra, Knob Noster and Fatima. The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons also went 3-0 in dual competition.

The Blair Oaks Falcons go to the Missouri Duals to wrestle bigger schools and top-quality programs. It’s also an opportunity to gauge the team’s progress early in the season, but facing tough competition is the key goal.

The Blair Oaks boys wrestling team won’t be at full strength when it begin its season tonight at the Pleasant Hill Tournament. The Falcons likely won’t be at full strength next weekend during the Missouri Duals at Helias either. With seven wrestlers still playing with the Blair Oaks football team and a few more wrestlers suffering preseason injuries, the Falcons will be a little short-handed as they get their season underway.
