The next, his hands were in the air, praising above for his freshman Dylan Hess. The Hoyas are back-to-back-to-back Big East Tournament champions after topping top-seeded Denver, 10-9 on Saturday at Providence’s Chapey Field.  The Kings of the East closed out the Kings of the West with a 6-2 run in the second half. (Photos Courtesy of Villanova Athletics) Everything was set up for a thrilling game heading into Thursday night’s Big East Semifinal between Georgetown and Villanova. The teams had met twice prior — once a blowout, once a close Hoya win. They came in with contrasting paths as Georgetown dropped its last outing with a disappointing performance vs. Loyola. Villanova, meanwhile, was earning some well-deserved buzz after drubbing Lehigh. The stakes were there, too. With the Big East’s AQ the...

Photo Courtesy of Syracuse Athletic Communications) Duke took down Virginia in overtime on Thursday. Manhattan, Delaware and Georgetown all won in extra time. Mac O’Keefe is now the career goals leader in DI lacrosse. The Heels rolled the Orange out of the Carrier Dome. Saint Joes, Delaware and Towson all won vital games. I was able to watch Michigan at Penn State on Friday night. While it wasn’t the prettiest game you’ll ever see — especially on the defensive side of the ball — the c...

Who’s your pick? Denver Why? I’ve struggled over this one, but I’m landing on the Pioneers. Georgetown is a much different team with returns from injury, and I expect the venue change will make this closer than first time around. But the Pioneers’ third-quarter surge against Villanova just showed me a lot to like about Denver. Alex Simmons has added a lot at attack, Jackson Morrill is the most inconspicuous star player ever, and even without Ethan Walker last week, the offense showed it...

What’s happened is less important than what’s next. Monmouth and Bryant are the current favorites to win their league titles, but the margin of success and failure are extremely tight in 2021. LIU (4-1 NEC) and Saint Joseph’s (5-0 NEC) still have to play the Bulldogs (3-1) in the NEC. Monmouth is scheduled to play ...

“Explosive” was a word he used after a 17-10 win for the No. 5 Pioneers against No. 20 Villanova on Saturday. A close game turned into a rout after a 10-goal third quarter for the Pioneers, who improved to 9-2 (7-0 Big East) and won without star attackman Ethan Walker. Walker was out with an injury, breaking a streak of 65-straight starts. Jack Hannah (3G, 1A), Lucas Cotler (3G, 1A) and Alex Simmons (1G, 3A) led with four points each, and Jackson Morrill (3G) extended the nation’s longest...

Monday February 1st, 2021 8:00am (Photo by Natalie Ledonne/Duke Athletics) You’ll be provided lots of excuses in 2021. The storyline of "who didn’t play because of COVID" will be a weekly lede. It’s everybody’s headline, but you’ll hear it conveniently used by losers, those that came up short. On gameday, you have all you need. Adapt. Be flexible. Overcome. Enjoy. A trio of games will be televised this weekend — 3 p.m. Friday, Denver at Duke;  4 p.m. Saturday, Towson at Virginia; a...

Fifth-year senior Jake Carraway could end up top scorer in Georgetown history.

December 27, 2020 BNL’s Kooper Staley and the Stars (2-2) will return to action on Wednesday, hosting Scottsburg in the first round of the Danny Bush Classic. By Justin Sokeland WBIW.com BEDFORD – Two weeks, in basketball terms, can seem like the Long Night, when skills freeze from idleness, when the winter of dormancy descends on the program. For two weeks, Bedford North Lawrence was quarantined into darkness. The Stars, shut down by a virus exposure and forced to the sidelin...
