NATCHITOCHES, La. -- The driver of the 18-wheeler who state troopers say veered off the interstate and killed three college band members early last month has been arrested.

Three members of Southern University's Human Jukebox band were killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer.

62-year-old Clyde Gay was charged with three counts of negligent homicide.

BATON ROUGE - A man who was behind the wheel of a semi truck that went off-road and killed three Southern University students while they were trying to change a tire along I-49 last month has been arrested in their deaths. 

Even after apologizing, he doesn't seem to recognize the magnitude of his mistake, nor does he seem to be following through on his supposed willingness to listen and learn.

One of three marching band members killed last week by an 18-wheeler was remembered Thursday.

Regent Steve Sviggum has been under criticism after he questioned whether the Morris campus had become "too diverse" at a U of M Board of Regents meeting in October.

Police said a driver was distracted while driving an 18-wheeler into a car where the men were fixing a tire.

Student body representatives say that during a recent lunch with regent Steve Sviggum and “historically excluded students,” he “didn’t seem to internalize anything” the students tried to share.

The calls came one month after Regent Steve Sviggum questioned whether the systems Morris campus had become "too diverse" and one day before the Board of Regents is set to meet.
