Bernie Madoff, responsible for the largest Ponzi scheme in U.S. history, died on Wednesday at 82.
The Bureau of Prisons said Madoff died in North Carolina, where he was serving a 150-year sentence. It comes a year after his lawyers requested an early release during the COVID-19 pandemic, due to chronic medical conditions an appeal that was ultimately denied.
Madoff was arrested in 2008 and sent to prison the following year for fraud, stealing $64.8 billion from his clients. He quickly became a symbol of Wall Street greed, leading to widespread public outrage and congressional hearings.

Daunte Wright, a Black man, was fatally shot by an officer who says she made an accidental discharge.

Unrest in Minnesota after Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man and father to a one-year-old was killed by police.
The curfews that were in place overnight in Minnesota including the city of Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis and St. Paul were lifted this morning.
They went into effect at 7:00 last night, but that didn t stop protesters from filling the streets.

According to Johns Hopkins University, over the past week, the U.S. reported about 70,000 new COVID cases a day.

During the surge last summer, average daily cases peaked at around 67,000.
And Michigan is reporting the highest number of new cases per capita in the U.S.

Many states had to move quickly Tuesday to pause distribution of the Johnson and Johnson coronavirus vaccine. But that quick decision at the state level caused a scramble on the ground, like at this vaccine clinic in Virginia. We quickly jiggered. We were able to identify an opportunity for today s clinic to offer Moderna. For appointments later in the week we re still in the process of evaluating what we can do to get those individuals in. We may need to reschedule but we ll know more as the week goes on, said Bryna Helfer, assistant county manager and director of communications for Arlington County.

The New York Times reports that six people in the U.S. reported a rare disorder involving blood clots within two weeks of getting vaccinated.
One woman died, another has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
Nearly seven million people in the U.S. have gotten the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
