But as the dust settles on an unprecedented attack on the nation s Capitol, many observers who took to the streets this summer can t help but compare the police response Wednesday to what they have experienced. White bodies who engage in terror are handled gently. Black and brown bodies who engage in resistance are terrorized, Faith in Action Director of Urban Strategies Michael McBride said.

The possibility of unrest at the Capitol on Jan. 6 was well known, but law enforcement was still unable to protect the building from attack.

Pro-Trump mobs smashed their way into the U.S. Capitol, quickly overwhelming police.
Lawmakers, meeting to certify the election, had to evacuate both the House and Senate chambers after some first sheltered in place wearing gas masks. We were just told that there has been tear gas in the rotunda,” said Rep. Peter Welch in a video he made himself from the floor of the chamber.
