I like the Persona series. I guess I’m just owning that now. I like the concept of a magic world formed from the subconscious minds of humanity so you can go into the head of someone you don’t like and kick the furniture around until miniature chairs fly out of their ears. Come to think of it I also liked Yakuza Like a Dragon, and Ni No Kuni 2 somewhat, and Earthbound and Chrono Trigger back in the day – damn it, do I actually like JRPGs? And I just hate reviewing them because I only have a week to play and they’ve usually got runtimes inversely proportional to the length of all the female characters’ booty shorts? Persona skin hastily slapped on top, you re in for a bit of surprise. What we ve actually got here is a slick and exciting action RPG that manages to keep plenty of the Persona series signature conversations, characters and camaraderie intact while fusing it successfully with hack-and-slash combat that s a little more strategic and varied than we expected it would be.
