Gym Bag Full of Automatic Rifles, Gun Ammunition Found Near Texas-Mexico Border On 5/12/21 at 2:25 PM EDT A member of the National Guard found an abandoned bag containing firearms and ammunition near the Texas-Mexico border earlier this month. The Guard member was assigned to Eagle Pass South Station in Texas and discovered a black gym bag left in the high grass on May 5, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) press release. Once Border Patrol was called in to search the bag, they found eight AK-47 style pistols and 10 AK-47 style 30-round magazines. A member of the National Guard assigned to assist Border Patrol agents found a gym bag with 8 AK-47 style pistols, with nearly a dozen 30-round magazines. Four of the weapons had been reported as stolen.

Recent reports from traveling lawmakers must have provided the motivation to spur on the Biden administration to ease the horrendous overcrowding of current facilities, including one in Donna.
