Hundreds of excited East Londoners flocked to the beachfront in Quigney to take part in the SPAR Daily Dispatch Fun Run on Sunday morning. More than 600 participants left the starting line just after 9am, with the first runner finishing just 13 minutes after running the 4km route. After Friday and Saturday’s gloomy weather, the skies cleared up and the sun shone on Sunday, giving the athletes the perfect weather for their run.
The glorious views and bracing sea air of East London's famed Esplanade will welcome hundreds of runners and walkers at the annual Spar Daily Dispatch fun run on Sunday, October 8, kicking off at the Orient Beach swimming pools.
Three employees of the East London Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have been suspended for “inhumanely slaughtering” a goose, which was all captured on video. The video of staff members slaughtering the injured goose emerged on social media over the weekend.
On Tuesday, 4 May, the National Council of SPCA said the organisation intends on laying charges of animal cruelty.
“It is a sad day in the world of animal welfare when the suffering of an animal has been inflicted by the very people entrusted to protect them,” said NSPCA Executive Director Marcelle Meredith.
