Local COVID hospitalizations drop in latest federal report

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record Local hospital beds used for COVID-19 patients for the last few days of January and the first days of February decreased for the second week, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. COVID-19 bed usage was down about 19 compared to the previous seven-day period. Total hospital beds in Roswell used for COVID-19 patients from Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 totaled somewhere between 159 and 162, according to the data released Sunday night. Adult in-patient beds occupied by confirmed COVID cases were 118 12 at Lovelace Regional Hospital and 106 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Pediatric beds used for COVID-19 patients was zero at Lovelace and somewhere between one and four at ENMMC. The exact number of pediatric cases at ENMMC cannot be known because the federal report uses the number -999,999 to denote four or fewer patients as a way to ensure patient privacy.

Edmund Montes (Submitted Photo) Edmund Montes, 37, of Roswell, and Delfida Marie Pineda, also known as Marie Pineda, 43, of Roswell, were served with arrest warrants returned to Chaves County Magistrate Court Monday, according to electronic court records. Montes faces one count each of kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; aggravated assault of a household member; battery of a household member and bribery of a witness. Pineda is charged with kidnapping, no intent to commit sexual offense; and battery.

Boor, (better known to his family and friends as “Grumpy” or simply “Tom”), while surrounded by family, peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after a sudden illness in Roswell, NM. Tom was born on December 11, 1942 in Gary, Indiana, the only son of Steve and Edna Boor. Tom spent most of his youth and career growing up and living in the Inland Empire of southern California. Tom served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1964 as a Morse Intercept Operator while stationed in Brindisi, Italy and Norton AFB in San Bernardino, CA. In 1978, Tom met the love of his life, Jeannie, and they were married on December 9, 1978. Tom adopted Jeannie’s children (Gina, Veronica, and Christopher) as his own. In October 1991, Tom retired from General Telephone Electronics and they moved to Roswell, NM where Tom put his 27 years of experience with GTE to work as the owner/operator of T&J Commu
