"action news" reporter katherine scott is live at police headquarters with the latest on the investigation. katherine. >> reporter: matt, still a lot of unanswered questions. her cause of death has not been determined yet but we do know homicide detectives have taken over this case and you could see detectives out yesterday in the area of convent and holme avenues near the crispin recreation center. the body of connie mcclain-murray was found yesterday morning by a woman walking her dog. sources told "action news" it appeared the victim had been strangled and there were signs of a struggle. they're also investigating in she had been sexually assaulted. she had gone out for a walk around 9 o'clock monday night. when she didn't return around 11 o'clock her husband and daughter went out looking for her. they filed a missing persons report several hours later. they're hoping someone has information and will come forward. >> if anyone saw her jogging or if anyone knows anything, heard anything, they should give us a call and pass along that information to our investigators. >> reporter: and mcclain-murray's body was found not too far from where some sexual assaults occurred that were connected to the pennypack park rapist. however, this case has not been connected to that yet. it just has a lot of people in that area on edge. we are expecting to learn more today. the medical examiner's report is expected to be released. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott channel6 "action news. >> thanks, katherine. new this morning a north philadelphia family was able to escape their burning home overnight but they will need to find somewhere else to stay the five broke out around 1 o'clock this morning at a home in the 3,000 block of north 17th street. firefighters were able to get it under control quickly but not before the flames did some serious damage. the red cross is helping the family who lived in the home. new on "action news," it's not a crime to deposit checks and withdraw cash except when the checks are worthless. philadelphia police say the woman in these surveillance pictures got away with more than $20,000 by depositing fraudulent checks at susquehanna bank and td bank machines. if you recognize her, police would like a call. >> happening today, philadelphia mayor michael nutter will lobby for a cigarette tax hike at a state senate appropriations hearing at city hall. the mayor says the tax increase is desperately needed to help fund city schools. city councilman kenyatta johnson led a rally in center city yesterday that drew support for the two dollars per pack hike. school officials say if they can't counter on the added revenue by august 15th, they will begin sending out layoff notices to 1300 school employees. the selling on wall street has been fierce lately. international troubles could put stocks in the red again today. maribel aber has our market watch report live on the the nasdaq in new york. >> reporter: fears russia could invade ukraine rattled wall street. the dow has now tumbled 4% from its all time record high set less than a month agoly right now futures point to a lower open. business gets even tougher for target. the retailer says earnings for its last quarter will be below wall street's expectations. the chain blames cautious shopping by consumers and that has led to mark downs. target also said the data breach late last year will cost it $148 million some of which will be covered by insurance. finally stop by a jamba juice today for a free sample of the chain's new healthy juices. the lineup takes sad tan taj of the growing popularity of kale and chia seeds. their strong sales sparked new growth at the chain. erin nothing beats those mega mango smoothies. >> and the beets. matt is getting one after work. thanks maribel. the husband of the second american aide worker recently diagnosed with ebola says his wife is weak but showing signs of improvement. nancy writebol is at emory university hospital in atlanta where she's taking an experimental drug. she and her league dr. kent brantly contracted the disease while treating ebola patients at the world health organization and they're today beginning an emergency two day meeting to discuss measures to tackle the ebola virus. the latest outbreak of the disease in africa has killed 887 people. an american general was killed in an ambush in afghanistan. major general harold j. greene was slot to death by a gunman dressed as a afghan soldier. greene was the highest ranked officer killed in combat since 1970 during the vietnam war. the shooting happened at a camp west of kabul as gunmen sprayed bullets during a meeting of allied troops. 15 people were included including two afghan generals an german general. the gunman was also killed. new on "action news," the cause of death is still not known after an autopsy was performed on a nine-year-old boy who was found dead in his home last week. the coroner has now called for further testing. it could be weeks before we know exactly what caused the death of jared. last friday police found the nine year old boy dead on the floor which was covered in his own feces. police say the boy died four days prior to police finding him but the father didn't tell anyone. no one has been charged yet with the boy's death. a report says russian hackers have stolen 1.2 billion user names and pass words. wisconsin based whole security uncovered this breach which may be the biggest theft of internet credentials in history. the firm told the new york times the cyber crooks stole from more than 420,000 web sites. experts believe the data is being used for spam and junk mail as opposed to being sold for identity theft purposes. >> apple has announced a date for the unveiling of its again. but this time it worked. marilyn hartman got through a check point without a ticket. she boarded a plane and flew to los angeles. southwest airlines attendants realized the mistake when they took ahead count on the plane. hartman has tried to get past airport security six times before this most recent incident: and this is the first time she actually made it on into the air. surveillance cameras caught two culprits pulling off a smash and grab burglary in southern california. you can see the two suspects wearing ski masks as they smash into a display case inside the manhattan beach the ramp from the southbound northeast extension to the westbound pennsylvania turnpike and police tell me that the motorcycle just slammed into the ramp wall there so this one is partially blocking traffic and we also have a downed tree here in lehigh county. police just told me they had to shut down prouder valley road and that's atwood lawn road. they've got this downed tree in upper milford township causing a problem so a closure. as we go outside live on i-95 no accidents this morning on i-95 but some examined jammed up traffic. this is your southbound traffic and you can see it's starting to get a little busy from allegheny to girard. so far only a 19 minute ride from woodhaven to the vine and the tacony palmyra bridge scheduled to go up at 7 o'clock this morning so might want been sexually assaulted. mcclain-murray had gone out to exercise around 9 o'clock on monday night when she didn't return around 11:00 p.m., her husband and daughter went out looking for her. they filed a missing persons report several hours later. people who knew the victim are devastated. >> i just talked to her on facebook maybe a couple weeks ago about all of us from the class getting glowing she always had a smile on her face. i can't believe that this happened. >> reporter: and so far police have not been able to locate the victim's cell phone. if you have any information about on a west philadelphia street. chopper 6 hd was over the scene late last night the 4900 block of fairmount avenue. when police arrived a little after 10:50 they found a 16-year-old boy an 24-year-old man lying on the sidewalk. investigators say they had each been shot several times. >> based on ballistic evidence we know that at least five shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon. we found three shell casing actually right inside the front door where the 24-year-old male resides. >> the victims are in the hospital in stable condition. so far police have not found a motive for the shootings. the delaware state police want you to give them a call if you recognize these men. investigators say they broke into wilson's auction house at about 11:30 on monday night. the business is on the 10,000 block of dupont highway near lincoln delaware. police say the burglary suspects managed to open the safe and steal some jewelry and about $4,000 in cash. >> and happening today, the preliminary hearing for two men charged with murdering an elderly couple in their philadelphia home. police say the victims were strangled inside their strawberry mansion house last month after trying to stop robbers in the act. the defendants, 26-year-old terry ballard and 19-year-old justen smith, they both face murder and robbery charges. investigators say ballard was a friend of the victims, 79-year-old rufus perry and his 66 year old wife gladys perry. the couple had hired both men to do odd jobs. also happening today, governor jack markell is expected to sign a bill requiring anyone convicted of dui in delaware to install an interlock device in their cars. the ignition interlock is like a breathalyzer requiring the driver to breathe into the device before the car can be started and if the driver has been drinking, the car will not start. >> as people head out the door this morning they can expect to be pretty comfortable out, right. >> oh, yeah, nice cool breeze blowing and lifeguards and listen to what they say. of course if you do get caught in a rip current swim parallel to the beach north or south and that will get you out of that narrow rip current. your exclusive bringing some relief, but unfortunately it was a warm wind, those winds will be settling down but all eyes right now on this line of thunderstorms moving through eastern michigan through ohio, they will move through keystone state and by the time they move in the delaware valley, it is later on tonight. don't be surprised if you hear rumbles of thunder. here is the the break down between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. showers and thunderstorms moving northwest to the south east. thursday morning some scattered showers, and then during the afternoon a line of thunderstorms, moving through the philadelphia being under a heat advisory the health department is warning everyone to stay smart and certain people need to take more precautions talk about hot? these construction workers are feeling it big time. while kids cool off at roberto clemente park people every where are downing plenty of liquids. doctors warned that the heat is something that needs to be taken seriously. >> prevention is the key if you don't have to be outside in the heat, don't be outside, don't do anything strenuous in the heat. if you can avoid it. >> reporter: doctor ralph an emergency medicine specialist at hahnemann university hospital says that during these hot months, they have plenty of iv fluids ready to go, salt water into the bloodstream is first course of treatment for people complaining of heat-related issues. certain people are more at risk. >> the the elderly, patients on certain medications, those that are outside over exerting themselves it can have pretty serious potentially deadly consequences. >> reporter: he says it is important to catch any signs of trouble, early. >> if you feel like you are getting sick, maybe more tired then you should feel, getting nauseated or anything tensions rise in south jersey over governor chris christie's spending plan as deadline for that budget nears. democrats are pushing for required pension payments while state workers are going to court. abuse treatment facility in salem county. >> two months ago on a sunday morning, i got that phone call that my friend, 52 years old, was dead in a motel room in west orange with an empty bottle of percocet and empty quart of vodka. >> reporter: with treatment resource necessary high demand, day top program in pittsgrove township will expand to include outpatient clients. seventeen year-old a full pension payment, funded by raising income taxes on those who earn more than $500,000 a year. two teenagers are under arrest a third is sought for vandal icing a church in mayfair. investigators tell us three teenagers broke in the church of grace, on the 3300 block of welling ton street overnight. the sign outside of that church was damage, plastic ripped off and toss add cross the line. >> satellite radar not much going on here as far as cloud cover just some hazy skies but this line of showers and thunderstorms will be moving east over the course of the evening period, and as it does it will get closer to us. between about 10:00 p.m. and midnight that is when we do expect this to be begin to move through. here's what we expect, showers, scattered thunderstorms, rain amounts between half inch and three-quarters of an inch. downpours possible overnight, heavier rain will be thursday afternoon as a line moves right through the delaware valley. we will watch this, pushing through, during the the day on thursday, and temperatures will be in the 80's, lot of lift in the atmosphere with this frontal boundary. we anticipate during afternoon between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. we will be seeing some heavy rain across the early part of the community. after that, the front goes well to the south, fair weather high pressure dominates, flow around this clockwise. we have a northerly wind flow. deep blue skies return. high temperatures in the 80's. we will watch saturday as this storm isn't that far away in virginia and west virginia area so there is a chance from philadelphia to the south and west that we see a few scattered showers and then are storms on saturday improving weather on sunday. so for late night period some thunderstorms, moving in, temperatures will be balmy in the 70's, during the day thursday, scattered showers in the morning and then that line of storms moving through in the afternoon and high of 86 and on the exclusive eyewitness weather recklessness. death by auto, one of the points you have to make is in a courtroom is that there was recklessness. here's the question for everybody. i know there is a lot of talk about this. is falling sleep at the the wheel when driving the at a automobile reckless. my vote, absolutely. one of the things i say to my kids when they go out driving late at night, i said are you too tired if you are take a rest are don't go out or have a buddy pick up. if you fall sleep at the wheel you will be subject to criminal charges. mr. roper has a big problem. he can serve five to some years in jail for falling asleep at the wheel causing someone's death. >> so what have you seen, before in, situations like this. you have have these cases that are similar to this. what was the outcome. >> i do. the prosecutor always has the the opportunity to bring charges. so middlesex county prosecutor will take a look at this case. remember this is not just your normal accident on the road. this is a high profile case. so everybody is going to be taking a look at this you have one death. you have a number of people injured. tracie morgan himself. it looks like he is doing better and it looks like he will recover. because of those injuries and the death there will be a lot of pressure on the prosecutor in this case to bring charges. i think charges are going to be brought. the prosecutor in, a courtroom, is going to have to prove that falling sleep at the wheel was reckless. so there is going to be a lot have of discovery. they will look into wal-mart what their policy is with regard to their drivers. how long their shifts are. what this particular individual roper, what his schedule was that day. how long a drive was he having. there is a lot of things they will be looking at. but in the even, possibly if he is quick, he will serve time in jail. >> it seems like celebrities playing a part in this investigation, already. >> i think you are right, mike. it is a celebrity. it is a of people watching us use the new jersey turnpike but the majority use it just in the south jersey area. we are around exit number four at route 73 where it is a normal road. speed limit is 65 miles an hour. anybody who has driven north of here knows the actual speed limit among millions of trucks, buses and cars as soon as they hit trenton and points north goes up to at least 80 on that stretch where the road then divides into two different sections each way, three lanes forecaster and three lines forecaster and trucks. you have 12 lanes that become a crazy dropping speed are sudden slow downs because of the traffic backups on this busy road can result in the worse crashes. >> as it was taken away in the flatbed truck you could see how badly damaged the limo busies, rear ended by wal-mart tractor trailer that pushed tonight to two other vehicles and flipped over the limo bus, just before the morgan group left dover, delaware one of its friends and fellow comedian, traveling with him, sent out these pictures on instagram. on the bottom hand right you can see the inside of the 2012 mercedes limousine bus with the passenger door open letting you see how seats were set up inside. the truck driver from georgia now out on bail but not likely out of the state of the new jersey since he got his first court appearance coming up today. he is charged and new york tr station report and that roper may have dozed off just before the crash. his jimmy mack mcnair was likely killed sitting in the last seat in the back corner of the limo bus, where the tractor trailer impact happened. from the new jersey hospital, the latest news on the injured seems positive, although tracie morgan is still listed as critical his publicist said quote he has been more responsive and incredibly encouraging sign. he has a broken leg, ribs and a broken nose and is expect to be in the hospital, his publicist said, for quote several week. morgan's assistant and one other remain in critical condition. the limo driver is already out of the hospital. because this crash involved a much loved tv star, it happened in the new york media market it is getting a lot more attention from authorities. that same group known for investigating plane crashes and train derailments, national transportation safety board says it will use this accident itself as a case study to prevent similar accidents. so it has a team here examining the turnpike crash too along with the local police and prosecutors doing the criminal investigation into this, sue and mike. >> all right, steve. >> i want
