Nearly 400 people celebrated members of the Pine Bluff Branch NAACP on Friday evening for numerous achievements during its 30th annual Dove Freedom Fund Banquet. The event marked the first time since 2019 that participants gathered in person for the banquet, held at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.

Kyndal Hayes from Germantown represents Tennessee. Cordova native Lily K. Donaldson represents New York. Pageant is at Cannon Center in Memphis.

Last Saturday night July 16 was a big night in Hope, Arkansas and a big night for Texarkana as The Miss Southwest/Ouachita River Scholarship Competitions took place at Hempstead Hall on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Hope-Texarkana. And those two titles went to two women from Texarkana.

Watching Arkansas Miss America preliminary pageant -- which started with an arrival celebration June 11 in Little Rock -- one name kept popping up. Ebony Mitchell, competing as Miss Dogwood, won the preliminary evening gown competition, the preliminary on-stage interview competition and the preliminary talent competition with her tap dance to "Respect."

Congratulations to Ebony Mitchell, a 25-year-old graduate student from Harrison. She won the title of Miss Arkansas 2022 over the weekend.

First the first time in pageant's 84-year history, both winners crowned are women of color.

Ebony Mitchell has sought the Miss Arkansas crown since her childhood.
