New contract is a bust.

Collectively, the demands of the 4,500 striking Minneapolis educators reflected the broad concerns of their colleagues nationally, making more strikes imminent, labor experts predict.

Hours after students returned to class after the three-week teachers strike, a special business meeting was interrupted by students, community members and teachers pushing back on extending the school day and year.

Just days after the resolution of a contentious educators strike, Minneapolis Public Schools Superintendent Ed Graff has revealed he plans to step down.

After a tense meeting on Tuesday, the Minneapolis Board of Education approved a plan to extend the school year and make school days longer to make up for instructional time lost during the educator strike.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS confirmed the news Wednesday that Ed Graff is stepping down from his position, stating he will not continue with a third term as the district's leader.

Ed Graff, the superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools, says he will not continue with the district after his contract ends on June 30.

The frustration over the last few weeks boiled over at the meeting, as students took over with megaphones and chanted "our schools."

The Minneapolis superintendent informed school board members in an email, just days after the districts 28,700 student returned to class after a teachers strike that lasted nearly three weeks.

Graff announced that he will not continue with a third term as MPS superintendent, and will step down when his contract expires in June.
