Coyotes laboring through 10-game losing streak after being in playoff picture a month ago

The Arizona Coyotes were built for the future but appeared to be ahead of schedule just a month ago. Flash forward to now, and a double-digit losing streak not only has the Coyotes closer to the NHL lottery than the playoffs, their confidence is cratering. Arizona general manager Bill Armstrong began a rebuilding process three years ago, jettisoning veteran players for a cache of draft picks that the franchise hoped would be the key to a turnaround.

Toews scores winner, MacKinnon extends home point streak as Avalanche beat Coyotes 4-3

Nathan MacKinnon sees the game on a different level these days. Devon Toews scored the go-ahead goal with 6:35 remaining, MacKinnon had a goal and an assist to give him at least a point in all 26 home games and the Avalanche beat Arizona 4-3 on Sunday night, extending the Coyotes’ skid to nine in a row. Playing a big role was video coach Brett Heimlich, who alerted head coach Jared Bednar of a potential offsides when the Coyotes scored a tiebreaking goal in the third period.
