One that date, her husband, Edward Bauman, and her two younger brothers, Howard Richard (aka Dick) and Robert Vroman, drowned in a Sherman Township lake.
Ed was 18 and about to become a father, Dick was 16 and Bobby, 13. They went spearing that Friday night at Quail Lake, with Larry Lung. Only Larry returned home.
According to the Sturgis Journal s April 8, 1961, edition, they were in a rusty boat that recently had been repaired. The boat sprang a leak and sank. Subsequent Journal stories revealed the boat had capsized.
