Popped up. Rules that b. A. R. T wants changed. Everything from workers will be allowed to call in sick one day then work over time the next. Even a rule that prohibits people from emailing saying they have to fax instead because they started out faxing years ago. Ken. Phil, i have a copy of the contract, the current contract. This is almost 300 pages. There are a lot of rules like that in here. I think the public would be surprised at some of the benefits that b. A. R. T employees already have. Benefits like that youre talking about. They have to go rule by rule almost right in this new contract . Reporter in the next couple of hours. So one side is saying forget about the rules. Well work those out later. B. A. R. T is saying no. We want changes out. And youre holding up in your hand 300 pages. Multiply that by three because there are two other unions involved. In the meantime, what is in here and the other two big contracts you are talking about is whats holding the public hostage a

Point. And we think its time for the Union Leadership to let us know, to let the people of the bay area know whether theyre going to take an offer to their membership. It is the middle of october. Ac transit negotiations have been going on during the same time. There have been two offers taken to their membership but not yet in these negotiations though were months beyond the deadline. Reporter following the b. A. R. T. Board president s statement, scius executive director responded immediately. Theres a little bit of strangeness in this offer, and actually to make this offer at 4 00 and not even come to the table and say there it is, and now come out and say we want to talk about it is also very curious to us. So we believe it was b. A. R. T. s intention and the b. A. R. T. Board districts intention to make a last best and final offer and then walk away from it which is essentially what theyve done. Even though weve been talking, we feel they have no intention of reaching an agreement
