(NEWARK, NJ) The New Jersey Symphony has announced the composers for the ninth Edward T. Cone Composition Institute. The 2023 Institute will take place Sunday, July 9 through Saturday, July 15 in Newark, culminating in a performance of the composers’ works on Saturday, July 15, 2023. This year s winning composers include Tom Morrison with his work Messages in the Ground, Kory Reeder with his work Walls of Brocade Fields, Sam Wu with his work Hydrosphere and Yangfan Xu with her work Bya.
On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the quartet Sō Percussion YSM alums Eric Cha-Beach ’07MM, Josh Quillen ’06MM, Adam Sliwinski ’03MM ’04MMA ’09DMA, and Jason Treuting ’01MM ’02AD will perform a program of music by Vijay Iyer ’92BS, Nathalie Joachim, Treuting, Caroline Shaw ’07MM, and Bryce Dessner ’98BA ’99MM. (PRINCETON, NJ) The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) will present a new production of Gioachino Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) as the centerpiece of its Princeton Festival to be held June 9-25, 2023. Rossen Milanov, Edward T. Cone Music Director and artistic head of the Princeton Festival, will conduct the opera which will receive a three-performance run.
