Shreveport Sends Out Checks for Water Overbilling
Residents are getting checks from the city this week. This is the end of a long saga over water billing in the city. A class action lawsuit was filed over the way the city rounded up bills between October 1, 2011 through December 31, 2019.
If you were a customer of Shreveport s Department of Water and Sewer during those years, you will be getting a refund check. Many of those checks have arrived in mailboxes this week.
Caddo Parish District Court Judge Michael Pitman approved a settlement of $5,900,000.00 for overcharges on Shreveport water and sewer bills. The nearly six million dollar settlement comes after a long litigation and heavy negotiations between Class Counsel and attorneys for the City of Shreveport.
MANSFIELD, La. â The DeSoto Parish Police Jury District 2 seat finally has representative.
It took two meetings, but the Police Jury has appointed Stonewall resident Bradley Sepulvado to fill the seat vacated last week with the resignation of Nicholas Gasper, who was sworn in Monday as a new district judge.
Sepulvado is a subdivision developer whoâs made DeSoto his home for decades. He does not plan to seek the office in the spring special election.
Sepulvado, who was immediately sworn in by District Judge Amy Burford McCartney, was the second person nominated for the position. Last week, Stonewall resident Kyle Kennington was nominated at the suggestion of Gasper. Jurors voted 5-4 against him despite the Police Juryâs long-standing tradition of honoring a fellow jurorâs recommendation.
