all right, just over 24 hours ago, we had tornadoes that were breaking out across extreme northeastern sections of texas into southwestern oklahoma. that's probably where we saw the worst damage and fatalities and the issue estimates are that these were ef-1 all the way to ef-3 on a scale that goes to ef-5, meaning at ef-3, the winds could have been as high as 165 miles per hour. let's divide the nation kind of in half. the east are having exceptionally warm temperatures. i mean exceptional. these are almost as much as 30 degrees warmer than they should be this time of year. e erie, pennsylvania, one year ago today it was 47 degrees. on saturday, you soared to 78 degrees. the records go back to the 1940s. it should be about 50 degrees or so.

most of them in iowa. you saw the destruction in madison county. this is winterset. 4:30, 5:00 p.m., this is an area over central iowa that was hit hardest with what is referred to from the national weather service as an ef-3 tornado at minimum. they analyze some of the visualization of the damage on the ground that they saw, and they believe that that is coinciding with winds in excess of 136 miles per hour. so that is unfortunately what caused the fatalities. you can see the enhanced fujita scale. it ranges from ef-0 through ef-5. they will go through with crews on the ground tomorrow to analyze exactly how powerful this exact tornado was. just to give you some perspective hiere, only about 2% of tornados are ef-2 or ef-3, a smaller percentage ef-4, ef-5. the chance of severe weather ongoing across the great lakes although starting to diminish. look out into grand rapids, michigan, for instance. that's where we still have a
