Governor Hochul announced her plans to issue a State of Emergency Thursday morning ahead of a winter storm forecast to impact portions of upstate New York with intense lake effect snow through Sunday. 

The major snowstorm hitting the western and northern parts of New York is closing a number of roads to commercial traffic including the Thruway and I-81.

A long duration high impact lake effect snow event will have an impact on metro Buffalo starting later tonight. A yardstick will be needed to measure the snow in parts of Western NY.
