City Council approves Freese Fund projects GALION Galion City Council approved recommendations for the use of Egbert M. Freese Foundation funding. Six projects for 2021 totaling $454,458 won unanimous approval from council. Following is the list of projects: • Bike path extension $208,000 • Heise Park pool improvements $23,458 • East Park baseball field backstop and field improvements $90,000 • Dog parks $50,000 • Splash Park parking area $24,000 Mayor Tom O’Leary said South Park and Cobey Park are the proposed locations for the dog parks. He said dog owners who live in the neighborhood around South Park have expressed a desire to have space for their pets in the park.

Freese Grant applications now being accepted Staff Report GALION The Freese Grant Advisory Board is now accepting applications to request project funding provided by the Egbert M. Freese Foundation. Projects must benefit parks and/or recreation in the Galion community. The Advisory Board will review applications and send recommendations to Galion City Council. Any local, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization may apply, but must provide a 25% match. Applications are due by March 12 at 4 p.m. Completed forms may be emailed to mattechelberry@galion.city or mailed to the City Building at 301 Harding Way East. Galion gets $100K in state funds By Andrew Carter - acarter@aimmediamidwest.com GALION The City of Galion is the recipient of $100,000 in state funding through the annual capital appropriations bill. Senate Bill 310, which provided federal COVID-19 relief funding to local subdivisions and included capital appropriations, passed by a vote of 29-0 in the Senate and 77-7 in the House, according to records maintained on the General Assembly website. According to a summary published by the Ohio Legislative Service Commission’s Legislative Budget Office, the General Assembly approved a total of $2,129,358,799 in capital funding requests by entities from across Ohio. The $100,000 allocated to Galion through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will be used for the Galion Park Square Renovation project.
