Egypt's General Authority For Supply Commodities is believed to have purchased 175,000 tons of wheat, through private talks with importers, making it the first Ukrainian wheat purchase since the start of Russia's war on Ukraine.
Egypt recently bought 240,000 tons of wheat from Russia directly, as the government continues to work on plans to avert a food crisis and preserve local supplies.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi delivered a virtual speech at the opening session, stressing the need to find "effective solutions" to the global economic crisis.
