The case concerns bans on “public camping,” which cities have used to ban homeless people from camping out in public places.

A religious liberty law firm is urging the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a federal appeals court decision that excluded faith-based homeless shelters when counting available beds.

The Supreme Court is looking at how cities can handle the homeless crisis. But, it's important to know government caused it with a mix of zoning regulations and limits on new houses.

Lower courts ruled it's "cruel and unusual" to fine or jail people on public land if no shelter is available. An Oregon city says that's hamstrung efforts to keep public spaces safe and open to all.
