SCOTLANDS conservation agency has called for visitors from 23 Scottish small islands in a bid to stop the spread of bird flu.

Risks to bird populations from avian flu will close two of Scotland National Nature Reserves in Shetland and on the Firth of Forth.

Isle of May nature reserve in Fife will be closed to visitors from July 1 over fears bird flu could spread to the island's 200,000 seabirds.

The action is to be taken at Isle of May and Noss in an effort to protest nesting seabirds.
