The USA affirmed yesterday its commitment to working with international partners to find a solution to important issues in the Horn of Africa, including the differences between Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and the border dispute between Khartoum and Addis Ababa.

April 5 - 2021 EL GALABAT / KINSHASA El Gedaref governor Suleiman Ali visits El Fashaga at the border with Ethiopia after Ethiopian attacks in January (SUNA) The Sudanese authorities closed the border crossing between El Galabat and the Ethiopian town of Metema on Saturday after several attacks by Ethiopian gunmen on members of the Sudanese security services. The authorities in Sudan said that these attacks were planned in advance. Some of the incidents were reportedly witnessed by Ethiopian police officers. Meetings were held by the Congolese Presidency of the African Union to discuss the resumption of negotiations regarding the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, yesterday. Ethiopian kidnappers release Sudanese merchants

February 2 - 2021 EL GALABAT Gunmen in Ethiopia (File Photo) Three Sudanese merchants who were kidnapped by Ethiopian shifta gunmen on Saturday, have been released after their families reportedly paid a ransom of SDG 3.6 million . Witnesses from the area told Radio Dabanga that the families handed over the ransom to the kidnappers in the Shaibet area in Sudan, after which the gang released the merchants. The angry families of the kidnapped merchants tried to enter the Ethiopian town of Matama with edged weapons, but they were persuaded to return. As previously reported by Radio Dabanga, on Saturday the Ethiopian gunmen took the three merchants across the border into Ethiopia and torched a motorcycle owned by the merchants.
