Punjab Assembly Polls 2022: Captain Amarinder Singh urges people to participate in carnival of democracy - Voting for Punjab assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 14, the Election Commission said on Saturday.

The election commission on Saturday announced poll states for the high stakes assembly elections in 5 states including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur. The polling will be completed in total 7 phases. Elections in Uttar Pradesh will be conducted in 7 phases, Manipur in 2 while Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand in one single phase. The counting of votes for all 5 states will take place on March 10. Polling time has been increased by one hour in all the election booths across 5 states.

 "We aim to conduct Covid-safe elections in five states with maximum voter participation with extensive preparations," the Election Commission said. While UP will vote in 7 phases, Manipur will vote in 2 and Goa, Uttarakhand and Punjab will vote in a single phase
