Industry data showed iPhones were the single largest contributor to the surge in both electronics and mobile exports this fiscal. iPhone exports, which crossed $7 billion in December 2023, constituted 35% of total electronics exports and a whopping 70% of the countrys total mobile exports in the nine months ended December.

Indias electronics exports experienced a remarkable growth of 22.24%, surpassing the $20 billion mark in the first nine months of FY24. The surge was driven by the booming smartphone shipments, notably Apples iPhone. According to the India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), mobile phone exports reached $10.5 billion during April to December 2023, constituting 52% of total electronics exports.

India Smartphone Market: The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) advised against reducing import duties on electronic components for smartphones in the upcoming budget, emphasizing that the current tariff structure supports local manufacturing. The report contradicts the India Cellular and Electronics Associations demand for duty cuts to boost domestic production.
