New York City’s arts organizations have lost nearly $1 billion in income due to pandemic
One measure of the toll that the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on American and global cultural life has been its impact on artists in New York City, the major cultural center in the US.
The Center for an Urban Future, using data from Americans for the Arts, released a report earlier this month, “Creative Comeback: Surveying NYC’s Cultural Ecosystem in the Wake of COVID-19,” by Eli Dvorkin, Charles Shaviro and Sarah Amandolare. NEW YORK CITY, New York: Jobs in the tech sector recorded a rapid increase in New York City last year, even as the COVID-19 pandemic forced most other sectors to slow down hiring, a new study reports.
Between April and November 2020, there were more vacancies for tech positions than any other job type, including healthcare, in the city, which was among the worst affected by the pandemic in the U.S., according to the Center for an Urban Future, a non-partisan policy think tank.
The study, which based its findings on data collected by labor-market analytics firm Burning Glass Technologies, found that software developers and engineers were the most sought-after, with 21,268 jobs posted for positions during the period, nearly double the vacancies for physicians, The Wall Street Journal reported.
