San Mateo County is expected to advance into the less restrictive orange tier on Tuesday. The move means restaurants can open at half capacity and family entertainment centers and cardrooms can allow people inside.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. - San Mateo County is expected to advance into the less restrictive orange tier on Tuesday. The move means restaurants can open at half capacity and family entertainment centers and cardrooms can allow people inside.
The last time San Mateo County was in the orange tier was back in October. The county has been in the red tier for three weeks now. Leaders are confident the county meets the state’s criteria to safely ease restrictions.
San Mateo and Marin counties can loosen some coronavirus-related restrictions now that they ve been moved to the less restrictive red reopening tier. Scott Budman reports.
Sausalito Fitness Club, which owner Joubert Caston will open Wednesday for the first time in three months, will be limited to 10% capacity. Meaning instead of 50 customers, he’ll have five at a time. At this point just being here is a blessing, he said. Five people is better than no people. Something is better than nothing.
Sausalito Fitness Club has spent tens of thousands of dollars on anti COVID measures including photo catalytic oxidation devices.
Restaurants will only be able to offer take out, and at Sapore Italiano, that means staffing cuts.
“I just talked to my employees again. I will cut shifts one has another job,” said Elio D’urzo. “I prefer to keep the guy who doesn t have another job.”
D urzo is doing his best to keep employees afloat during a shutdown, he says it doesn t make sense.
“If you can go to the market outside, I don t understand why you can t eat outside,” he said.
And he’s not the only one with questions.
In a court case challenging the dining ban in San Diego, a judge is siding with restaurants. Saying closing them will move people inside for high risk gatherings. Some San Diego restaurants reopened Thursday after the county said it won t enforce the states shutdown order.
