Colorado Democratic lawmakers killed an ambitious bill Thursday that would have banned the sale and transfer of semiautomatic firearms.

A bill to ban the sale or purchase of assault weapons in Colorado died early Thursday morning after three Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee joined with their Republican colleagues in voting against it.
