Kentucky Power will give away thousands of low-growth tree saplings to customers on Saturday, May 1, in celebration of Earth Day and Arbor Day.
The saplings will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis while supplies last beginning at 8 a.m. on May 1 in Ashland, Hazard, Pikeville and Whitesburg. There is no charge for the trees.
Four varieties â Eastern Redbud, Silky Dogwood, Grey Dogwood and Washington Hawthorn â are available. Supplies are limited. Customers may not reserve trees or place orders in advance.
The following spots will serve as the four giveaway locations:âCentral Park in Ashland, Whitaker Bank (2378 Highway 15)âin Whitesburg, Loweâs (81 Commerce Dr.)âin Hazard and Kentucky Power (2349 North Mayo Trail)âin Pikeville.
Nine people were arrested on suspicion of being involved in a drug dealing operation in Barrow. This followed a week-long operation focused on tackling drugs in the community. Multiple arrests were made between Tuesday and Thursday. Two of those arrested have already been charged with drug supply offences. On Tuesday, two men and a 16-year-old youth, all from Barrow, were arrested on drugs supply offences alleged to have been committed in the Barrow Island area. They have all been released under investigation. On Wednesday two women and a man, all from the Barrow area, were arrested at an address in the Hindpool area on suspicion of drug supply offences.
