Dawn Kirk has been a strong advocate for students since she was a student in Thompson schools. She works countless hours for free on the school board today, in our public schools, on committees, at the state Capitol, and even with D.C. lawmakers.
An analysis of the district’s budget and conversations with district staff indicate that the financial needs of the district are great enough that satisfying them purely through budget cuts would necessitate laying off large numbers of staff or cutting basic upkeep of buildings.
Yesterday, I got a large flier in the mail about school board candidates. It troubled me, because it was the first negative campaigning I have seen. I noticed it wasn’t from a candidate but came from “Students Deserve Better.”
