We spent some time speaking with members of the community who were in line at the Doris Topsy-Elvord Community Center in North Long Beach to find out how they were feeling.
In response to the huge testing demand, the city on Monday opened a new mass testing site in the former Boeing parking lot, near 3590 E. Wardlow Road, capable of testing more than 3,000 people a day.
The community center was renamed for Doris Topsy-Elvord, the city’s first Black councilwoman. The parkway was renamed for Dan Pressburg, a longtime resident and activist in the Deforest Park neighborhood.
