Bahamian professional women’s basketball player Lashann Higgs has signed to play for a new team, remaining in Spain for the 2022-2023 season. She will suit up for Honzo Global Jairis in Alcantarilla, Spain. Higgs will be playing in the Liga Femina Challenge league that was formed in 2021. LASHANN Higgs and the Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM closed out 2020 with their 14th loss in the Professional Basketball League, just after they picked up their third victory right before Christmas day.
On Sunday, Higgs and Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre PDM suffered a 89-73 defeat at the hands of the No. 13 ranked Gran Canaria (5-13). The loss came after they won 62-49 over the No.15th ranked Socinsa Bembibre.
“We can only get back to the drawing board and keep working,” Higgs told The Tribune. “We came up short, but we have to learn and build on what we have learned and focus on the next game.”

A number of Bahamian professional basketball players in Europe head into the Christmas break on a winning note after helping their respective teams to victories on Tuesday night in Portugal and Spain.
Travis Munnings and newcomer Shaquille Cleare helped Uniao Desportiva (UD) Oliveirense Basquetebol to a 90-79 victory over Imortal Luzigas at the Albufeira Sports Arena in Albufeira, Portugal. Munnings finished with 14 points and six rebounds while Cleare finished with four points and three boards.
The win moves Oliveirense to a 7-4 win/loss record on the season, and they sit in sixth position in the standings in the Liga Portuguesa de Basquetebol. The win snapped a three-game losing skid for them. Their opponent came into the game on a seven-game winning streak, and after this game, they fell to 8-2 on the season, sitting in third place in the standings.

It was a busy weekend for Bahamian professional basketball players overseas as they were in action in their respective leagues.
Dwight Coleby scored nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in a road win for his team, Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket (4-5), as they upset Kocaeli Bşb Kağitspor (6-3), 91-72, on Sunday afternoon. The game was played at Kocaeli Atatürk Spor Salonu in Kocaeli, Turkey.
With that win, Coleby’s team now sits in the number 13 position in the Turkish Basketball League, the second highest level of basketball in Turkey. Also, they snapped Kagitspor’s five-game winning streak.

Kadeem Coleby continues to post career numbers this season in the Japanese B-League and recorded another milestone in his fourth season with the Akita Northern Happinets.
Coleby finished with a triple double - 18 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists - in the Happinets’ 89-70 win over league defending champion Alvark Tokyo last night in Akita, Japan.
He shot 9-11 from the field and also added a game high four blocks as the Happinets extended their winning streak to three games and improved to 11-8 on the season.
Coleby leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 14 points and 8.4 boards per game. He is shooting 69 percent from the field and is also averaging 1.5 blocks and 2.5 assists per game.
