A fresh crisis has hit the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) over an alleged attempt by the Chairman of the Governing Board of the agency, Lauretta Onochie, to take over the duties of the Managing Director, Dr Samuel Ogbuku. The composition of the NDDC board has been a subject of controversy in recent times, with the inclusion of certain persons – an action which has been roundly condemned by Nigerians.
A human rights lawyer and activist, Malcolm Omirhobo, has stated that Lauretta Onochie is not fit to be appointed as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) chairman. SaharaReporters reported last week that President Muhammadu Buhari appointed his aide on new media, Lauretta Onochie, as the substantive chairman of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Buhari, in a letter addressed to the Senate President Ahmad Lawan, also announced the nomination of 15 others as NDDC board members.
